Q: I am very confused about the Flipped Classroom. Why does my child do the homework page at school and the handout at home.
A: Please take a look at this video that explains what we do in our classroom: https://youtu.be/AGTBao7yQuQ
Q: I turned in my assignment late and Ms. Meinhardt has not changed my grade!
A: When anything is turned in late, you need to fill out a Late Work Slip. It may take up to a week to grade late work.
Q: I need help on my Give Me Five and/or videos. When can I get help?
A: We have a full class period that is meant as time for small group or one-on-one help. Also, I offer tutoring during recess by appointment only.
Q: What is the Late Work Policy?
A: Dealey Middle School Late Work Policy
• 1 school days late = 10 points off assignment grade
• 2 school days late = 20 points off assignment grade
• 3 school days late = 30 points off assignment grade
• Students will be responsible for notifying teachers ahead of time if extensions are needed due to special circumstances.
• Missing grades will be entered into PowerSchool immediately as a “1 - Missing” and can be updated after assignments are
turned in.
• In cases of cheating and/or plagiarism student(s) will receive a zero which will be recorded in Powerschool and disciplinary
action will be taken.
Q: What can I do to bring my grade up?
A: I offer test corrections on each test you take which will give you half credit back for each question you turn in correctly. On those corrections, you need to answer each question and work out the problem as though you would have on the test. Exemplars for corrections are posted in the math Clever page. If you do not work out the problem or do not follow the instructions (analyzing the answer choices), you will not get credit for that correction. You can also be on the lookout for bonus opportunities throughout the nine weeks. Sometimes they are hidden ;) Your nine weeks grade will reflect effort + mastery.
Q: I turned in my test corrections, but the test grade did not change on Powerschool.
A: All test corrections will show up in as its own grade on Powerschool. If there is a zero in that column, it means that you did not turn in test corrections or you did not complete your forms correctly. A zero will not hurt your grade. It will not help, either.
Q: I got a bad grade on my Give Me Five and I want to know why. How can I find out?
A: All graded papers are filed in the classroom. You have a folder with your name. You may come in anytime to look at them. I would love to help you master anything in which you feel weak!
Q: My child says they are watching the videos, but Powerschool says they are not. How can I check?
A: EdPuzzle does not currently have a parent portal. I would suggest having your child log into EdPuzzle to show you their progress.
Q: My child is watching the videos, but has not been doing well on the tests, what can I do?
A: I would suggest watching a video or two with him/her and seeing how they engage with it. My hope is that they are actively watching it and attempting to understand the material, not just passively writing down the answers on the handout. Remember that they are not LEARNING from the video, they are simply getting information. The real learning happens in the classroom when they apply what they saw on the video.
Q: My child is not doing very well, but I don't know what else we can do.
A: We have nearly a full 90 minutes of in-class time to work on what they have seen in the video lessons. This is the best time for them to ask for more help.
Q: My child was absent, where can we find the information to see what he/she has missed?
A: If you click on the News table at the top of this site, you can see that I post the lesson plan for each class period. On this plan, there will be classwork and homework listed. This will be posted prior to classes. In Google Classroom, at the beginning of each week, I post the Google Drive folder that includes this planner and all the materials for the week.
